This Saturday (15 June 2019) the magic carpet will be parked at park “Borisova Garden”, time of departure – 10 a. m., direction – eastwards and even more eastwards, destinations – a whole bunch of them and right at once, and on board – a free place for all! Forasmuch as the time has come for the magnetic kaleidoscope of the Third Asian Festival in Sofia, called “The Magic of the East”.
Inspiring melodies and rhythms from the Philippines, Thailand and Palestine, spectacular dance performances from India and Indonesia, masterful martial arts demonstrations from China and Japan, Vietnamese fashion show and plenty of more surprises, combined with fascinating colorful traditional clothes, weaponry and adornments, from a total of 16 different Asian countries, are all part of the abundant 10-hours long program of the festival. The admirers of the Korean culture, in particular, will be able to enjoy the irresistible rhythms of the enchanters of the ensemble “Samulnori Soyoung”, to witness the fascinating self-control and indomitable spirit of the Taekwondo martial artists, and to dance to their favorite songs, while a true culinary palette is waiting for them – look for the biggest tent!
These colorful and picturesque cultural, culinary and art experiences will doubtlessly grant us the opportunity to get a breath of fresh air and break away from the daily routine, yet the festival offers much more than this. It is not just a possibility to escape from reality and reach distant and exotic countries, but as a true and meaningful adventure, it provides us with the chance to return from it as a little bit better people. And this is what real magic does…
For a second consecutive year the event stands by the cause of the “For Our Children Foundation”, which aims to provide an opportunity for every child to grow up in a safe family environment, and supports biological and foster parents. For this purpose, a charity tombola is organized with more than 50 prizes waiting for the lucky winners, among which are hand-made chocolate delights, a spa weekend for two, a yacht trip, and the biggest of them all– a two-way ticket for two to an Asian destination of your own preference. What is more, each embassy’s exhibition tents will offer traditional foods and beverages, works of art and souvenirs, and the funds of the sales will be donated to the Foundation. By means of the gathered funds, vulnerable families at risk of separation will be supported and young children under threat of being abandoned and deprived of parental care will be helped, so that every child has the opportunity of a real home, a healthy family and a true childhood.
Last year the festival raised more than 16 400 BGN, which contributed to the Foundation’s cause, allowing its team to support the development of 48 children in foster families, granting them the opportunity to participate in sports and summer camps, green schools and to visit theatrical performances and creative workshops.
